OVERVIEW OF TVA’S REGULATORY ROLE

WHO DOES TVA REGULATE?
TVA regulates the 153 local power companies (LPCs) that distribute TVA power. This includes municipally-owned electric utilities and electric cooperatives.

WHO DOES TVA NOT REGULATE?
TVA does not regulate customers directly served by TVA power, nor does TVA regulate electric utilities that do not distribute TVA power. In addition, certain areas are outside of TVA’s regulatory scope. For example, as to electric operations, each LPC served by TVA is responsible for managing its own electric system operations--to ensure safe, reliable operation of the distribution system.
